A Night of Latin Music and Dance – July 1, 2004 Brava Theater, San Francisco 's Mission District

In what can only be called a tour d'force of community support, 'A Night of Latin Music and Dance', a fundraiser for the Miguel Bustos for District 9 Supervisor Campaign, opened to a FULL HOUSE. Held at the historic Brava Theater in the City's Mission District, neighborhood leaders, community activists, artists, teachers, families and kids of all ages, came together to support one of their own - Miguel Bustos. Lorena De La Rosa and her Amigos, Kaleidoscope Dance Artisans and William Morin lent their talent to this spectacular evening of community. This fundraising concert was a milestone in a long run ahead of us. But one thing was clear - We have only just begun!

Campaign Kick-Off – June 19, 2004 – Cesar Chavez Elementary, San Francisco 's Mission District

The Miguel Bustos Campaign kick-off, with over 200 community attendees, was a great celebration of diversity and inclusiveness. Unlike traditional kick-offs, this was more a community gathering, where each contributed through song, dance, conversation and presence. The days festivities were emceed by Sam Ruiz, Executive Director of the Mission Neighborhood Centers* , who welcomed each of the speakers and performers, which included the West Coast Chinese Lion Dancers, Kaleidoscope Dance Artisans, Hazel Lee – Vocalist, The Young and Gifted Gospel Choir, the Hindu Dance Troupe and DJ Clay. Children enjoyed cotton candy and a fun “Jolly Jumper” as their parents registered to vote and talked to Miguel about their hopes for the future.
